I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, and moved to High River with my husband in 2002 to raise our two sons. High River is known for its strong sense of community spirit, resilience, and connection.
With a professional background in the Human Services sector—Registered Nurse, Literacy Coordinator, Library Programmer, Yoga Instructor, and more—I have worked across various areas in town. These roles have enabled me to build relationships, understand the diverse needs of residents, and advocate for inclusive, people-first solutions.
I served as a Town Councillor from 2017 until 2021. During this term, I supported the transition back to regular municipal business after flood recovery ... Learn more about Carol.
📰 The High River Times asked every interested mayoral candidate the following questions:
Why should constituents vote for you?
I am an experienced former Town Councillor who has spent the past four years watching Council meetings, speaking up at public comments, and working diligently to advocate for people regarding affordability and budget transparency. I am not afraid of a challenge and am dedicated to giving it my all.
What do you feel sets you apart from the other candidates?
My approachability and genuine desire to listen, learn, and engage with people.
Why are you running for mayor?
It is time for a fresh outlook, and representation that serves the people, along with a focus on CAO/Administration accountability.
What previous political experience do you have?
High River Town Councillor 2017-2021 (Board Roles: Chair of Strategic Planning Westwinds Communities, Secretary Community Futures)
How have you been involved in the community?
I have been able to work and volunteer in a variety of areas in High River.
What are your top issues?
Financial transparency and stewardship – the pool expansion has caused a great drain on our reserves, and we need to work hard to plan responsibly to build them up again for future generations. Public engagement that is active, and not merely checking off a box. Getting back to what the responsibilities at the municipal level are: water, infrastructure, wastewater, roads, and safety. Economic Development with support from the town role.
How would you describe your leadership style?
My leadership style is one of integrity, active listening, thoughtful conversations, and a sense of humour.
Tell me about a challenge or conflict you’ve faced, and how you dealt with it?
As a former Town Councillor, I know that not every decision pleases everyone. I have had citizens express frustration and anger over issues, and have found that the approach that has worked is to take the time to really listen, and explain why the decision was made and how it was made regarding legislation. People need to be heard. I was respected as a councillor for my approachability, even after difficult decisions.

"A key theme is that people feel that their voices are not heard ... public comments have been removed from the start of the [council] meeting. So, you can't have your voice heard as a citizen before they make a decision; you can only speak afterwards. That's not accountable and that's not listening to the people." READ MORE

I have had a few requests from people to post the clip from the April 14, 2025, Regular Council Meeting, in which Council decided to return the Committee of the Whole Meetings to Room L04 and no longer livestream/record them.
